The decision to create World Oral Health Day was taken at the World Dental Federation (FDI) Annual World Dental Congress (AWDC) in Dubai in 2007. Its objective was to "develop activities and initiatives aimed at increasing awareness for oral health as well as the impact of oral diseases on general health, well-being and economy." Many diseases are linked to oral health, including heart disease, osteoporosis, and diabetes.
We started our oral health campaign in December 2016. We also invited Unicare Medical Centre to conduct free ECGs in February as part of this campaign. The finale of World Oral Health Day was celebrated across Transport at Dubai Downtown Trolley System, Palm Jumeirah Monorail, Dubai Tram, Mamzar and Nahda accommodations and Rashidiya Depot. 78 staff participated in the event. Thanks to Dr. Jude Sudhakar of NMC Medical Center Deira and Dr. Smrithi Varma, Dr. Satyaki Arora, and Dr. Heena Shaikh of Clover Dental Centre for sponsoring the event as they traveled from one contract to another giving staff advice on dental health. Since the campaign started, 289 staff availed the free dental checks and consultation.
