- To provide age-appropriate oral health education
- To promote early preventive oral healthcare practices
- To educate caregivers on maintaining children’s oral hygiene and healthy dietary habits
- To create awareness about the importance of early dental visits and prevention
Target Population
Preschool-aged children and caregivers from the ICDS Anganwadi centres at Kaji Takdi, Janta Market, Bhandup West.
Activities Conducted
The following activities were carried out:
- Oral Health Screening: Examination of children for dental caries and other oral conditions
- Oral Health Education: Simple, interactive sessions tailored to the understanding level of young children
- Tooth-Brushing Demonstration: Demonstration of correct brushing techniques using models
- Dietary Counselling: Guidance to caregivers on reducing sugar intake and promoting nutritious food habits
- Caregiver Education: Emphasis on the role of parents and caregivers in maintaining children’s oral hygiene
The program effectively improved awareness among children and caregivers regarding the importance of oral hygiene and preventive care. Early screening facilitated identification of dental issues at an initial stage, enabling timely intervention.
The initiative reinforced the message that a healthy mouth contributes to a healthy and happy life, encouraging families to adopt better oral health practices.
Conclusion
The camp highlighted the importance of integrating oral health promotion into early childhood care settings such as Anganwadis. Such community-based initiatives play a vital role in building a strong foundation for lifelong oral health and overall well-being.
