As part of the World Oral Health Day *(WOHD)* celebration, the Mobile Dental Unit (MDU) visited *Government Primary School - Kakayanthope* on *04.03.2026*.
The School-Based Intervention Model
By utilizing the Government Primary School - Kakayanthope as the venue, the NOHP effectively uses the school environment as a "health hub." In public health, reaching children in their natural learning environment ensures higher receptivity and normalises health-seeking behaviours from a young age.
Behavioural Modelling via "Toothie"
The use of the Toothie doll model is a form of Social Cognitive Theory in action. Instead of just verbal instructions, the 3D model provides a visual and tactile demonstration. This helps children bridge the gap between abstract health advice and the physical skill of "proper brushing techniques," making the competency easier to replicate at home.
3. High-Volume Impact (Scale & Reach)
With 150 students benefiting, the program demonstrates an efficient "population-based approach." In public health terms, this scale is vital for reducing the community-wide burden of dental caries. Moving beyond individual clinical visits to mass awareness sessions at the MDU ensures equitable access to health education for all students, regardless of their background.
