Popular Science Enters the Waiting Area: Daliang Hospital Holds Heartwarming "World Oral Health Day, March 20" Event

The Stomatological Hospital Affiliated to Jinan University (Daliang Hospital) launched four heartwarming public welfare mini-lectures in the stomatology waiting area under the theme "2026 Healthy Oral Health Journey – Popular Science into Thousands of Households".

The event received generous material support from the Chinese Foundation for Dental Disease Prevention and Control. Practical oral care gift packages, paired with professional health knowledge, delivered a special "health gift" to patients seeking medical treatment.

Breaking away from the rigid format of traditional health lectures, the hospital transformed the waiting area into a "mobile health classroom". Two 10-minute mini-lectures were held each in the morning and afternoon, allowing patients to learn practical oral care tips during their waiting time. A team of stomatologists, together with three young doctors/medical students – Huang Yinyu, Huo Wenyue and Han Xinwei – took turns delivering speeches. Focusing on four major topics of public concern: periodontal disease, wisdom teeth, pediatric oral health care and caries prevention, they explained professional knowledge in plain language with vivid cases. The event served more than 80 people in total, with frequent knowing laughter and warm applause heard in the waiting area.

The science popularization lectures precisely met the needs of all age groups with four informative themes:

• For the elderly: Explaining the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease and key points of edentulous restoration, providing a full-cycle dental care plan.
• For young and middle-aged adults: Addressing confusion about wisdom teeth, clarifying criteria for extraction or retention, and dispelling the myth that "no pain means no need for extraction".
• For children and adolescents: Popularizing first aid for dental trauma and early identification of malocclusion, reminding parents to seize the golden period for orthodontic treatment.
• For the general public: Analyzing the mechanism of caries formation and teaching three lines of defense against caries: daily cleaning, dietary management and regular check-ups. The practical knowledge was highly praised by the audience on site.
