Manila Water Foundation, in partnership with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) and PHILUSA Corporation, celebrated World Oral Health Day in two schools in the Philippines with at least 1,000 students participating in a group toothbrushing event. Magnifying the theme of the the World Oral Health Day, the two key events were held, one at the Ricardo P Cruz Sr Elementary School in Taguig City in Metro Manila, and another at the Magdum National High School in Tagum City down south of the Philippines in Davao del Norte.
In the two sessions, leaders from the Department of Education, Local Government, City Health Offices and product partner PHILUSA Corporation shared messages to remind the young students and teachers on the importance of maintaining good oral health care as it is connected to overall health and well-being. Dentists of the PDA led oral hygiene sessions and reminded the students on the 7 Steps to Proper Toothbrushing.
The 2024 World Oral Health Day celebration highlight was the group toothbrushing of the event participants. Five hundred students from the Metro Manila event on 20 March and 500 students at the Davao del Norte event on 22 March brushed their teeth within the World Oral Health Day celebration. This was in support of the Department of Education's promotion of toothbrushing even while in school.
To make toothbrushing a happy activity, and aligning with the theme "A Happy Mouth..is a Health Body", Manila Water Foundation launched the BrushUp, BrushUp! Toothbrushing Song and Dance as a fun way to remember the directions and areas of the mouth that should be brushed to keep a healthy smile.
Manila Water Foundation led the installation of printed and electronic billboards along busy highways in Metro Manila to let the public know about the theme and celebration of World Oral Health Day and to encourage more Filipinos to BrushUp, BrushUp!
