On March 31, 2024, the Dental Hygiene Programme marked World Oral Health Day with a community outreach initiative at Prince Aly Boys School and Mohammadi Girls School in Karachi. The objective was to educate and screen the oral health of school-going children.
Interactive educational sessions were conducted, covering topics such as proper brushing techniques, the significance of regular dental check-ups, and the impact of diet on oral health. Through engaging activities like quizzes and demonstrations, children were encouraged to actively participate in learning about oral hygiene.
A team comprising dental hygienists and programme students performed oral screenings for over 230 children aged 5-20 years. These screenings aimed to detect potential oral health issues such as cavities, gum disease, or malocclusions. Each child received personalized feedback and guidance on improving their oral hygiene practices.
The programme also engaged with school faculty, parents, and staff to stress the importance of oral health in overall well-being. Educational materials were distributed to reinforce key messages and encourage healthy oral habits at home.
This initiative contributed to increased awareness among children and their families regarding the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene practices. It also facilitated early detection of oral health issues, allowing for timely intervention and treatment. The Dental Hygiene Programme remains committed to promoting oral health awareness and fostering healthier communities through education and outreach initiatives.
